Strawberry Mountain Inn
Standing majestically on a knoll a quarter mile east of Prairie City, in Eastern Oregon, is the beautiful and historic Strawberry Mountain Inn. Some of the most spectacular views of the Strawberry Mountains and the John Day River are seen from the Inn. Built in 1910 by the Dixon Brothers for Rice and Elizabeth McHaley, the house dominates the landscape and is well known to everyone in the area. The McHaley family raised horses for the U.S. Cavalry and were orchardists. Their apples and pear trees still produce delicious fresh fruit for this well known Eastern Oregon Bed & Breakfast.
The McHaley family raised four sons and a daughter in this large three story farm house. The present owners, Linda and Bill Harrington, maintain one guest room, "The Princess Room", with a distinctly feminine decor, as it was the room belonging to the McHaley daughter. The Harrington's have been told on more than one occasion that guests in this room have felt a "presence" that made them feel very welcome and at home. A psychic that visited the Inn declared, "You have a little spook up here. She is a tiny little things and she likes to dust and she loves your cats." Linda replied, "I'm glad she likes to dust - it helps out a lot." Linda has noticed that her 2 cats, Duke & Duchess, like the upstairs hall and sitting room better than any other place in the house! Linda said, "I have a hard time keeping Duchess out of "The Princess Room", and always have. If she can find a way to push that door open, she will be in there in a heartbeat.
The Orchard and Floral Rooms were added after the house was built, in the area that was the original sleeping porch for the family. These are very quiet rooms and much in demand by single travelers as they are smaller and more intimate in flavor. The Chateau Room has a TV/VCR and a king size bed that is great for curling up to watch a move from the extensive video library available to guests. The Blue Room is the original master bedroom with a king size bed and amazing views of the Strawberry Mountains. Guests waking to the sunrise in this room often comment on how peaceful and serene they feel after their experience. Rates:
